Stop jaw clenching and teeth grinding at the source

For bruxism, jaw tension, and nervous system patterns that don’t switch off

If you’re waking with a tight jaw, headaches, or worn teeth — or noticing clenching during the day — this isn’t just a dental issue.

It’s often your nervous system holding tension on repeat.

Start with a consultation

What is bruxism?

Bruxism is the medical term for teeth grinding or jaw clenching, often happening unconsciously — either during the day or while you sleep.

While it can seem minor at first, over time it can lead to:

  • Jaw pain and tightness

  • Headaches (especially in the morning)

  • Worn or damaged teeth

  • Neck and shoulder tension

  • Disrupted sleep

For many people, it becomes a pattern that feels automatic and difficult to stop.

Why does it happen?

Bruxism is often linked to stress, anxiety, or unresolved tension in the body.

It’s your nervous system staying switched “on” — even when you’re trying to rest.

This means the jaw becomes a place where pressure is held and released unconsciously.

Even if you understand the cause mentally, the pattern can continue because it’s stored in the body, not just the mind.

Why mouthguards don’t solve the problem

Mouthguards can protect your teeth — but they don’t address why the clenching is happening.

That’s why many people find:

  • the tension continues

  • the habit doesn’t change

  • symptoms return when the guard isn’t used

To create real change, the underlying nervous system pattern needs to be addressed.

A different approach to bruxism

This work focuses on how your nervous system is responding, not just the symptom.

By combining counselling, EMDR, and clinical hypnotherapy, we work at both the emotional and physical level.

This allows you to:

  • reduce constant tension in the body

  • stop unconscious clenching patterns

  • process underlying stress responses

  • create new, more regulated patterns

How the process works

This is delivered through a structured approach designed to create real, lasting change.

1. Stabilise
Build regulation and reduce constant tension in the body

2. Process
Work through stored responses using EMDR

3. Rewire
Reinforce new patterns using hypnotherapy

This is not open-ended therapy — it’s a focused process designed to help you move out of patterns that continue, even when you understand them.

This may be right for you if:

  • You wake with jaw pain, tightness, or headaches

  • You’ve been told you grind your teeth at night

  • You notice clenching during the day without realising

  • You feel constantly tense or “switched on”

  • You’ve tried solutions but the pattern keeps returning

What changes

As your nervous system becomes more regulated, many people experience:

  • less jaw tension and clenching

  • improved sleep

  • reduced headaches

  • a greater sense of calm in the body

  • the ability to respond differently to stress

This is about changing the pattern — not just managing it.

If you’re ready to understand what’s happening in your system — and begin to change it — the first step is a consultation.
